It’s bloody sunny so you’ve got to get a bloody haircut. It’s the bloody law.
It’s bloody sunny so you’ve got to get a bloody haircut. It’s the bloody law.
Last week you may have seen me tweeting on about Matt Bruce playing a traffic cone, along with the hilariously topical hashtag #coney2012.
I originally asked Matt to play bass, but it was really sunny so we decided to hit a traffic cone with drumsticks, which as it turns out, makes a really good noise. (Not sure my neighbours agree.)
“What a great idea it would be to get some pictures, or even a video, to show the internet what a traffic cone pretending to be a musical instrument looks like!”
I thought, while taking lots of photos and videos. Then, because I am an absolute idiot, I deleted them all. The only thing left is this live video of Shadow, filmed yesterday at Surya:
Matt Bruce, Peter Valiunas and Sarah Wilson are my band in this video - Keep one eye on my Twitter & Facebook for news about more gigs featuring even more ridiculous arrangements of my songs.
I released the first EP in the Lies Of Love project at the end of last year, but since then I haven’t really been as active as I could be, so I’d thought I’d write a post about what I’m up to so both you and me (mostly me) know what to expect in the run up to the release of EP02: Forever this summer.
Memo to self: Must leave bedroom once in a while.
It often feels like there is more going on in my computer screen then there is outside my front door but there really is no substitute for real human interaction and live music. Despite plugging in, tuning up and tubing home all being far too much of a mission for this impatient Internet addict, I am going to endeavour to get out there a bit more.

I do have a gig with my band where I’ll be accompanied by my new band on the 26th March at Surya in Kings Cross. YOU should definitely be there. Facebook event.
Leading me nicely onto the idea of making my music seem a bit more real on the Internet. Myself and Faulkner like to make music on computers without thinking about if it’s possible to play it live. However, there are plenty of ways to fry a fish so I’m going to be trying to get some alternative versions of the songs on YouTube over the next couple of weeks, to give you a taste of what to expect at the live Lies Of Love shows.
I’ve also just reposted this video of unreleased song “Sorry”.
I recently played around with Portico Quartets brilliant new track Steepless and realised how much fun it is playing around with songs that have already been “finished” so I’ll definitely be doing more of that soon, especially since I recently got some lovely new Logic plugins (namely Massive, Ozone and Addictive).
I’ve very recently started playing in a new band with Matt Bruce. Matt is a talented songwriter who, like me, likes synths as much as strings. Check out his Electropop project Not The Droids. I’m really excited to start playing Matt’s great songs out with him and working on new stuff too. Nothing online yet, but our unnamed 6 piece has started rehearsals so watch this space!
No doubt you’re thoroughly enjoying this bunch of rambling so far, so who am I to tease with some words and then not write some more words again after it? Absolutely nobody. As such, I’ll be sharing some thoughts I’ve had about music, musicians and more broadly new media. This will be coming… well, soon.
Of course, follow me on your social based website of choice to find out about all of this as it happens.
Also, subscribe to my monthly mailing list if you like the odd email.

One year in one image. Looking out from his window, photographer Eirik Solheim snapped an image of the same spot every hour for an entire year in 2010. He then cherry picked 3,888 of the best images and stitched them (with help from his readers) from left to right in chronological order. Each line is a different image and the end result is the interesting shot you see above. EIRIK SOLHEIM

Back at the place
Where we
Started to face
What we
Could not quite place
Before
Losing the race
When we
Started the chase
Then we
Gave up the race
Before
And you said
If I were you
And you were me
Then we’d be there by now
Be there by now
I look to you
For my lessons in cool
No I
Did Not love you
Before
And now that it’s true
You can’t
Quite get through
To see my point of view
And you said
If I were you
And you were me
Then we’d be there by now
Be there by now
I know that you could do much better
But I know that you’re happy here
And you said
If I were you
And you were me
Then we’d be there by now
Be there by now

Defence. Bring down your defence.
Bring down your defence
And relax
A kind of gravity pulls me towards you
The force is all we know
I kind of wish this world would be good to me
And for once let us grow
Defence. Bring down your defence.
Bring down your defence
And relax
My hand is placed against your face
Making sure that you’re still there
Our breaths speed up as if it’s a race
As if we’re running out of air
Defence. Bring down your defence.
Bring down your defence
And look back
